Thousands Raised For Victims Of Devastating KOP Fire

Here's how to help some of the many victims who lost some or all of their possessions in this week's destructive blaze.

KING OF PRUSSIA, PA — Mere days after a devastating blaze tore through a King of Prussia apartment complex, thousands of dollars have been raised in support of the victims and their families, many of whom lost their homes or suffered significant damages.

It was the second major fire at an apartment building in the immediate area in as many weeks, as it came just a week following a blaze at a complex in Conshohocken.

The King of Prussia fire on Wednesday left around a dozen victims injured, including several police officers, residents, and an EMT. The cause of the fire is not yet known.

At least three GoFundMe campaigns have been launched for individuals who lost some or all of their belongings in the fire.

A fundraiser for resident Melissa Burdick had already raised $6,270 as of Friday afternoon.

"She was told everything at her apartment is a total loss," wrote her friend and fundraiser organizer Amy Williams. "I'm sure insurance will help, but we all know how long a process like that can take."

Another resident, Pepe, had to escape the fire by climbing over his balcony; his friends said the blaze was "right next door" to his apartment when he got out. You can learn more and donate here.

"As a result of this fire, everything (of his) was destroyed," wrote Danita Jones, fundraiser organizer.

Local Entech employee Bruce Koloko was able to escape his apartment with his laptop, wallet, passport, and keys; everything else was lost. Nearly $1,500 had been raised as of Friday afternoon in a GoFundMe campaign.

While the two-alarm blaze caused heavy property damage, the injuries suffered by the victims were non life-threatening.

An investigation into the cause of the fire remains underway.
