Tuesday Marks The 24th Anniversary Of The Death Of Norristown Officer Thomas Barone
Norristown police officer Thomas Barone was responding to a domestic disturbance on October 11, 1992, when he was shot and killed.

NORRISTOWN, PA -- Tuesday marks the 24th anniversary of the death of Norristown police officer Thomas Barone, who was killed in the line of duty on October 11, 1992.
Barone, 32, had answered a domestic disturbance call at a row house on the 600 block of West Elm Street, according to the Officer Down Memorial Page.
He was climbing a narrow staircase when the suspect opened fire on him and hit him multiple times, the page states.

The suspect was caught soon thereafter and sentenced to death, but died in prison before the sentence could be carried out.
Barone had served with the Norristown Police Department for two years before his death.

The Women's Center of Montgomery County released a statement on the 23rd anniversary of Barone's murder in 2015.
"We will forever remember Officer Thomas M. Barone. It is an honor and a privilege for the Women's Center of Montgomery County and Laurel House to contribute monetarily to the Thomas M. Barone Scholarship Fund every October, to remember and honor his death and sacrifice, while giving support and encouragement to the families/children of our fallen heroes. Every year, we dedicate a part of our Domestic Violence Awareness Month Ceremony at the Courthouse to this scholarship fund in his name."
