Upper Merion Cop Struck In 5 Vehicle, 'Chain Reaction' Accident

Five vehicles, including an Upper Merion police cruiser, were involved in a chain reaction crash which injured at least three.

UPPER MERION, PA — Five vehicles, including an Upper Merion police cruiser, were involved in a chain reaction crash which injured at least three.

The incident occurred on March 22 at around 5:48 p.m., authorities said.

The police cruiser was stopped at a red light at the intersection of Route 202 and Henderson Road when it was struck from behind.

The collision pushed the cruiser into the back of another stopped vehicle and across the center median of 202, according to authorities.

All told, five vehicles were involved in the "chain reaction" crash.

Two of the drivers were treated at Paoli Hospital. The officer was treated at Einstein Hospital in East Norriton where he was later released.

Police said that the driver who began the chain reaction by striking the police car was suffering from an unknown and unrelated medical emergency at the time of the incident.

Names of those involved have not yet been released by police.

The incident is currently under investigation by the Upper Merion Township Traffic Safety Unit.
