With Val Arkoosh Departing, Montco Starts Search For New Commissioner

With two former commissioners headed to Harrisburg, Montgomery County leadership will look a little bit different.

NORRISTOWN, PA — Montgomery County has now begun a search for a new county commissioner after longtime leader Val Arkoosh was selected by Gov.-elect Josh Shapiro to be the new Pennsylvania Secretary of Human Services.

The Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas is charged with finding Arkoosh's replacement. A new chair of the Board will also need to be selected.

Arkoos has been the chair of the three-person Board of Commissioners since 2016, when she succeeded Shapiro.

The new commissioner will fill out the remainder of Arkoosh's term in office, and will join Republican Joe Gale and Democrat Ken Lawrence on the Board.

The Court is accepting applications to the position. Interested parties should email a resume and cover letter to Court Administrator Michael Kehs at mike.Kehs@montgomerycountypa.gov by Jan. 23.
