Voting-Related Phishing Scam Strikes Montco Weeks Before Election
County officials believe it's part of an attempt to discourage turnout in the upcoming election.
NORRISTOWN, PA — A new election-related phishing scam is circulating around Montgomery County in which residents receive a text urging them to click dangerous links to address "problems" with their voter registration.
Montgomery County officials issued a warning Wednesday on the scams, which claim to originate from a website called Allvote.com. The website is not secure or verified, officials said, and its purpose appears to be to capture personal information from voters in an effort to later exploit them.
County elections chief and Commissioner Neil Makhija said he believes it's part of an attempt to discourage turnout in the upcoming election.

"Our team is hyper-focused on doing everything we can to make voting easier and more accessible for eligible residents," he said. "Weak phishing scams will not deter our progress."
Authorities do not know who is beyond the scam.
