West Norriton Officers Recognized for Heroic Actions During Fire

"At a time when heroism is no longer stressed as an important aspect of community life, you stand out as an example for others."

A pair of officers in West Norriton were honored by the state of Pennsylvania Thursday when they received commendations from U.S. Sen. Bob Casey.

Each received a letter of appreciation for their heroic efforts during a fire in the township on May 9, 2016.

Detention and Transportation Deputies Kelli Holbert and James Buckley had previously received recognition from Montgomery County Sheriff Sean Kilkenny for their efforts that day.

Holbert and Buckley were driving in West Norriton when they saw flames emerging from a building on West Main Street. Firefighters had not yet reached the scene, and the pair hurried inside the building to evacuate the residents.

"At a time when heroism is no longer stressed as an important aspect of community life, you stand out as an example for others," Sen. Casey wrote.
