'You're Not Alone': Eagles' Lane Johnson Opens Up On Depression
Eagles star lineman Lane Johnson opened up about his time away from the team, sharing his struggles with depression and anxiety.

PHILADELPHIA, PA — There's no end of talk in the NFL about physical injuries. To the knees, ankles, ribs, head. What often gets lost in the shuffle in football, as in other sports, is the mental side of both the game and life.
Eagles star offensive lineman Lane Johnson has not been shy in the past about facing this reality, and he reminded fans and personnel around the league about the importance of talking these issues through on Sunday.
"Depression and anxiety are things I've dealt with for a long time and kept hidden from my friends and family," Johnson wrote in a part of a message sent out on social media. "If you're reading this and struggling, please know that you're not alone."

Johnson, 31, has been away from the team for three games and the past two weeks for what had previously been disclosed as personal reasons.
"I would like to thank everyone for their understanding and support over the last two weeks," he added. "I appreciate the positive notes and messages as I've worked hard to restore my personal life."

Johnson's fellow star linemate, Brandon Brooks, has been similarly open about these issues. He missed time in 2019 due to anxiety, after going through what he called his "typical routine" of morning vomiting before a game, which did not dissipate as it usually did as game time approached.
A three-time All Pro selection, Johnson is one of the few remaining Eagles from the 2018 Super Bowl champion team.
