PITTSBURGH PRIEST OFFERS HEATHCARE AND DIGNITY TO THE POOREST OF
THE POOR

Annual Ole’5K Race Supports The Anna Seethaler Hospital in Oaxaca,
Mexico

In 1999 local Capuchin-Franciscan, Father Scott Seethaler,
visited missionary friends in Oaxaca, Mexico.  He was so moved by the extreme poverty and
lack of healthcare available that he pledged to build a medical clinic to serve
these poorest of the poor.  The Anna
Seethaler Clinic, named after his mother, opened one year later in November
2000.  Today, the clinic has grown into a
full service hospital providing healthcare to 2,300 patients each month.  The hospital relies on donations from
generous benefactors and fundraising events like the Ole’5K.

In 2009, three eighth grade girls were inspired to aid Father
Scott in his mission.  Cross country
runners Jess, Kristyna, and Shannon, with the help of their running families,
created the Ole’5K fundraiser as their confirmation projects.  Much of the work for this event each year
continues to be done by new generations of confirmation candidates.  Over the past five years the Ole’ 5K has
raised $104,000 for TASH, Inc and the number of participants has grown from 176
to 770.
