Foreign Film Series at Northland

In this drama from France,
octogenarians Georges and Anne are retired music teachers whose daughter lives
abroad with her family. When Anne suffers a stroke and is left paralyzed on one
side of her body, the couple’s abiding love for each other is put to the test.
Georges wants to preserve his wife’s dignity by caring for her at home. Eva,
their daughter, is unable to grasp why her father chooses to endure the hardship
of his wife’s care. This film’s title in French says it all – Love – a story of
what love is meant to be, all the way to the bitter end.

The
story is gloomy in nature, but lovingly told and is directed with unsentimental
honesty. The main actors give a riveting performance in this winner of an
Academy Award for Best Foreign Picture. No reservation is required to join us.  Light refreshments will be served
