
Three
countries of Eastern Europe - Poland, Croatia, and Slovenia will be the
destinations for September’s arm chair adventure at Northland Library. In Poland, we’ll see St Mary’s Church with
its world famous wooden alter piece, one of the most impressive in all of
Europe. We will tour Poland’s most
famous site, Wawel Hill, as well as the cathedral where Pope John Paul II
officiated. We’ll also visit the Nazi
concentration camp of Auschwitz.
Traveling on to Croatia, we’ll visit Dubrovnik, known as the “Pearl of
the Adriatic”, one of the most beautiful cities of the world. In Split, we’ll
visit Roman Emperor Diocletian’s Palace and Mausoleum. In Plitvice, we’ll see one of Europe’s most
spectacular natural sites with its countless waterfalls and then on to
Slovenia’s Skocjan Cave for some spelunking.
Lastly we’ll tour Lake Bled with its fairy tale castles, island and
Marshall Tito’s summer villa. Light
refreshments will be served.
