Every dog has its day, and Sunday, May 20th proved to be just that day for roughly 100 or so dogs at the 3rd Annual “Heel for Healing” Dog Walk to benefit Abington Health. The fun started with a series of contests that put the spotlight on our four-footed friends. Prizes were awarded in categories that included largest dog, smallest dog, cutest puppy, best tail wagger, best dog trick and owner/dog look-alike. Following that, a fascinating presentation by Abington Police Officer Daniel Fisicaro and his K-9 partner Mathews gave everyone something to bark about. At 11:30, owners and their dogs took a leisurely stroll through the Schilling Campus, with Abington’s own Animal Assisted Therapy volunteers in the lead. This all led up to the much anticipated Canine Fashion Show, where a bevy of beauties strutted their stuff down the runway in both casual and formal attire. The day was rounded out by a frisky agility demonstration by the K-9 Jym, an impressive presentation by Keystone Search and Rescue, and the announcement of raffle winners (twelve in all). Held in memory of Bernadette Fecher, the very heart and soul of this event, this year’s dog walk enjoyed tremendous support from sponsors, in-kind donors, rescue organizations and vendors. Heel for Healing’s ongoing success offers proof positive that you can, indeed, teach an old dog new tricks!
