State Representative Steve Santarsiero raised support on Tuesday for legislation he is sponsoring that would help educate parents on eating disorders in children.
The Bucks County-based, Democratic lawmaker hosted members of the National Eating Disorder Association in Harrisburg to help support House Bill 433.
The bill would require schools to share information on eating disorders with the parents of children in fifth through 12th grade.

“This legislation would go a long way in helping parents understand that an eating disorder can take many forms across different ages,” said Santarsiero said in a press release. “Whether it’s a student-athlete trying to gain or lose weight or a student who is singled out by peers because of a weight problem, it’s important that parents have access to age appropriate and state of art resources as early as possible.
The bill currently awaits a vote in the House Education Committee.
