Congressional Candidates To Discuss Environment At May Forum

Candidates seeking to represent Bucks County in Congress will weigh in on environmental topics during a forum next month.

A congressional candidate forum on the environment will be held on May 1 at the Northampton Township public library. The forum, organized by Bucks Environmental Action, will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Democrats Steve Bacher, Rachel Reddick, and Scott Wallace have confirmed they will attend. Dean Malik, a Republican running in the primary against Brian Fitzpatrick, will also attend. Bucks County's current representative, Republican Brian Fitzpatrick, declined due to a prior commitment, his campaign said.

During the forum, each candidate will introduce themselves and present their overall environmental position. There will then be three questions posed to each of the candidates, one from each of the following areas: climate change, public lands and fossil fuels/alternative energy. Pre-submitted questions about environmental issues on the federal level of concern will conclude the forum.

“We are hoping that in this way, some attention will be paid to the highly significant environmental issues and concerns in an intimate venue that allows some of the voters to hear what the candidates think,” said Sharon Furlong, a cofounder of Bucks Environmental Action and the moderator of this event.
