Council Rock School Closure Decisions Could Come as Early as Nov.

A capital plan for Council Rock School District, including the possibility of school closures, will likely be decided upon in November, the Bucks County Courier Times reported.

A tentative timeline for the capital planning process that was discussed at a meeting Thursday suggests that a vote will be likely on Nov. 6, according to the report. There will be public meetings that will allow for discussion before that.

The next discussion of the capital plan will take place at a board meeting on Sept. 4, which starts at 7:30 p.m.

In June, a volunteer Capital Planning Committee presented three separate proposals to the board. All of the proposals suggest that closing schools is a fiscally necessary next step. Schools suggested for closure include Wrightstown Elementary School, Richboro Middle and Rolling Hills Elementary.

Many residents oppose closing schools, including several from Wrightstown who have been vocal with their aversion to the proposal. An online petition that supports keeping the school open has more than 1,085 signatures as of Monday.

Families in the Richboro Middle School area are also getting active in their effort to stop that school from being closed. They have also created an online petition, that as of Monday has more than 400 signatures

Council Rock’s Capital Planning Committee, comprised of volunteers from across the district, was tasked with coming up with a capital plan by assessing buildings and overall student enrollment.
