DUI Arrest, Fraud Investigation: Northampton Township Police Report

A suspected DUI, a fraud report and roadway hazards were among Northampton Township police calls last week.

RICHBORO, PA — The Northampton Township Police Department reported a suspected DUI arrest, a fraud investigation and several service calls in the department’s March 16 to 22 police activity log.

The report also included road hazards, a solicitor complaint, two traffic accidents, found property and two dogs that were reunited with their owners.

On March 16, patrol responded to Almshouse Road and North Friesland Drive for a report of smoke coming from an underground junction box, according to the police report. Patrol verified an issue at the scene, and PECO responded.

The next day, officers went to Middle Holland Road and Doe Run Drive for a downed tree. Police reported the tree was blocking Doe Run Drive, and Northampton Township Public Works removed it from the roadway.

Also on March 17, patrol responded to Buck Road and Heron Road for a report of a driver slumped over inside a vehicle. According to the report, officers spoke with the driver and, after an investigation, the individual was taken into custody on suspicion of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

On March 18, patrol responded to Nancy Drive for a solicitor complaint. Police reported that officers located two individuals going door-to-door without a permit. They were identified and advised of the steps required to apply for a solicitation permit within the township.

A found property report was logged March 19 after a resident came to the police station with property they had found, according to police. Patrol took possession of the item, contacted the owner and returned the property.

Police also responded that day to Upper Holland Road and Yerkes Drive for a deer-related traffic accident. The report states that a westbound vehicle struck a deer after it entered the roadway. No tow was required.

On March 20, a resident reported that their home computer became locked and displayed a message appearing to be from Microsoft instructing them to call a phone number. Police reported that the resident spoke with a person claiming to be from Microsoft Security, who said the complainant’s bank accounts were compromised and instructed them to wire funds to a “secure account.” During the incident, a bank employee identified the activity as fraudulent and flagged the accounts. Information was collected, and the case has been assigned to Detectives.

Police also reported a two-vehicle crash March 21 at Newtown-Richboro Road and Fir Drive that required a tow. On March 22, patrol responded to Tanyard Road for two found dogs and reunited them with their owners.

During the week, police handled 17 alarm calls, 9 abandoned 911 calls, 37 medical emergencies, 10 bookings, 5 domestic disputes, 8 civil disputes, 92 traffic monitoring details and 28 crime prevention details.
