FBI Agent Coming To Council Rock To Address Internet Safety

FBI Special Agent speaks to parents on Internet Safety this Thursday night at Newtown Middle School

The dangers of the internet are unavoidable and a constant challenge for parents to know how best to protect their kids. On Thursday November 12 at 7 pm, FBI Special Agent Cerena Coughlin will be speaking to parents at the Newtown Middle School to share the latest issues in internet safety and vital actions that parents can take to make sure that their child avoids falling prey to these online dangers.

“Internet Safety is not as simple as just installing website blocks or monitoring your children’s activity,” says Special Agent Coughlin, an experienced professional with extensive background in internet safety issues. “It takes the entire household to understand privacy concerns and if the family doesn’t work as a team, everyone can lose.”

Special Agent Coughlin will be speaking with students at Richboro Middle School that morning and will come back to present to the students at Holland and Newtown Elementary on November 19th. However, Thursday evening’s presentation is designed specifically for parents only. “I will cover the same material at each of these presentations because I want to encourage dialogue between student and parent on these important issues,” says Special Agent Coughlin. “What parents will hear at the evening event, however, will be much more explicit and frank, so please make arrangements to leave children at home.”

SA Coughlin is has been in the Bureau for almost 15 years, with experience in Crimes Against Children and was a member of the Los Angeles Innocent Images Taskforce. Ms. Coughlin regularly speaks to members of the public regarding the FBI Philadelphia Cyber Squad and issues of cyber and personal safety, social networking and cyberbullying.
