Deborah Castiglia's boyfriend called authorities to report he had not heard from his girlfriend since Saturday and that he couldn't get in touch with her. He said he went to her home in Doylestown on Sunday, but she was not there, and neither was her car.
After that, he went to her parents' house in Churchville and banged on the door several times. The lights were off, and he left without making contact with anyone at the home, according to information he told police, as conveyed in a probable cause affidavit.
Deborah Castiglia's boyfriend went back to her parents' residence in Churchville on Monday around 2:15 p.m. Deborah's brother, who he identified as Kevin, came to the door wearing a robe. When he asked to speak with his girlfriend, Kevin Castiglia said she wasn't there. He then told his sister's boyfriend, "Don't ever come here again or I'll kill you," the probable cause affidavit said.
The man immediately left and called 911.
Northampton Township Police said when they arrived at the home on Heather Road, they were confronted by Kevin Castiglia, who was armed with two knives, one of which appeared to have blood on it. He was speaking incoherently, court documents said.
"When asked about his family, Kevin did not reply," the probable cause affidavit said. He subsequently pointed knives at police, at which time police deployed two tasers. The action failed to subdue Castiglia, who slammed and locked the door, according to court documents.
Police called the South Central Emergency Response Team to the scene, which made forced entry into the home. Once inside, they found Deborah Castiglia dead in the kitchen, and Fred and Judy Castiglia dead in the lower-level of the house, court documents say.
Authorities attempted to take Kevin Castiglia into custody through the use of less lethal force, but he retreated to the second floor and barricaded himself inside a bedroom. He was eventually taken into custody by members of the SERT.
