Northampton Residents Sound Off on Safety Issues

Northampton, PA - Summer’s nearly here and with each walk in the park, day at the pool and backyard BBQ comes the risk of snakebites, drowning and fires, but don’t worry! There’s no reason to stay cooped up inside all season.

Patch put together a list of summer safety tips to keep you safe and having fun while the weather’s warm. Make sure to give snakes their distance and always swim with a buddy to stay carefree during the dog days.

Keeping these tips in mind, there are other possible dangers that affect Northampton residents year round.

We asked Patch Readers what they thought the biggest safety issues were in their town. Here’s a list of the most pressing problems, from break-ins to traffic jams:

• "Speeding all over town."

• "Trying to make a left onto Almshouse from Temperance especially during rush hour. Traffic backs all the way up Almshouse blocking the intersection and you can never get out unless you are lucky and someone decides to let you out!"

• "Pot holes on Bustleton pike"

• "Making left turns anywhere on 2nd Street Pike in Richboro"

• "Lack of sidewalks down Second Street Pike/232"

• "Intersection of East Village road and Stoneyford Road in Shires. There's always lots of people crossing the street and people are flying down Stoneyford to cut through to East Holland/Bridgetown pike."

• "Lack of sidewalks. See a lot of people texting while driving."

• "Not just the speeding but speeding with the entitled attitude .i.e. someone passed me on Elm Avenue this week and I see people ignore the school zones"

• "No sidewalks. Maybe if people could walk places around here there would be less traffic = less speeding"

• "People need to learn to turn off their high beams at night when a car is coming the opposite direction!"
