Northampton Township Declares Snow Emergency

The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning for the region from 10 a.m. on Sunday to 6 p.m. on Monday.

RICHBORO, PA — A snow emergency has been declared in Northampton Township. Parking is prohibited on township streets to allow public works and emergency vehicles to navigate safely. "Please stay off roadways during the storm, and keep hydrants clear," the towship advises.

Parking Restrictions

During a declared snow emergency, parking is prohibited on all Township streets to allow Public Works crews to safely and efficiently clear roadways. Vehicles left on the street may be ticketed or towed. Township Ordinance 561

Snow Removal Operations

The Northampton Township Public Works Department is actively implementing the Township’s Snow Management Plan, with plowing prioritized as follows:

  • Primary roads and bus routes
  • Secondary (collector and through) roads
  • Residential streets, cul-de-sacs, and dead ends
  • Crews will continue plowing as conditions allow. Please be patient as operations progress.

Sidewalk & Property Responsibilities

Property owners are reminded of the following Northampton Township requirements:

  • Clear a 2-foot-wide sidewalk path within 24 hours after the snow emergency ends (48 hours if more than 12 inches of snow falls)
  • Remove basketball posts from the right-of-way to prevent damage
  • Do not push snow into the street — this is prohibited by Township Ordinance 213
  • Please consider clearing snow around nearby fire hydrants (3-foot clearance)

Travel & Safety Tips

  • Watch for ice, fallen trees, and downed power lines
  • Keep emergency supplies in your vehicle if travel is unavoidable

  • Never use grills, generators, or fuel-burning devices indoors due to carbon monoxide risk

The National Weather Service in Mount Holly, New Jersey, has issued a blizzard warning for the area from 10 a.m. on Sunday to 6 p.m. on Monday.

Blizzard conditions are expected with snow accumulations of up to 12 inches and winds gusting up to 45 mph. Snowfall rates could exceed two inches an hour or higher Sunday night, with locally higher amounts and significant drifting of snow possible.

Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions will impact the Monday morning and Monday evening commutes. Gust winds could bring down tree branches and result in isolated power outages.
