Phillies Legend Makes Appearance at Local Business

Former Phillies left fielder Greg "The Bull" Luzinski signed autographs for local fans who showed up at Tom Adams Windows and Carpets on Wednesday.

Tom Adams Windows and Carpets has been a fixture in the Bucks County area since 1955 and on Wednesday they gave back to their customers, as they had former Phillies left fielder turned chef Greg “The Bull” Luzinski at their Churchville location to help celebrate the beginning of another baseball season.

The 60-year-old Luzinski, who was a member of the Phillies 1980 championship team, is still very involved with the organization as he has his own restaurant in right field at Citizen's Bank Park, appropriately named Bulls BBQ. He also makes appearances throughout the tri-state area at local businesses.

Tom Adams, which is located on 2nd Street Pike, has had promotions like this in the past. Last September they had former Phillies catcher Darren Daulton and were so thrilled with the turnout they decided to try and do it a second time.

“We're not here today to sell our products but rather to just have fun,” Tom Adams Sales Manager Rob Barufkin said. “Some of the people that came out are people who we have done work for in the last five years and we don't look at them as customers because they are like extended family."

ESPN Radio 97.5, the Fanatic, was also at the event, giving out free stuff and they even had a drawing to win an official Mitchell and Ness Phillies jersey. The Fanatic sponsors events like this all over the area for advertisers such as Tom Adams who are looking to boost their image.

“It brings customers to the stores and lets customers see the products and meet some of their favorite players,” said Steve Feldman, who has worked for the Fanatic and it's sister stations for nearly 12 years.

Fans brought all sorts of goodies for Luzinski to sign and many even made small talk with him, reliving the old days. David Parker, a resident of Doylestown, made the nearly half hour drive to see a key player of that 1980 Phillies team.

“This is cool and it is not too crowded. Although he is pretty accessible at the stadium, here you're guaranteed to meet him, where as there you have to get there early,” Parker said.

There was no item that Luzinski wouldn't sign and even took pictures with anyone who had decided to bring their camera with them. The entire event was free and Tom Adams was expecting a turn out of about 300 people. With other locations in Doylestown, Southamptom and Whitehall, the company is already looking ahead to future events.

“We hope to have Daulton at our Whitehall store in June but at this time we do not have a set date or time,” Barufkin added.
