Possible Ordinance to Further Restrict Burning

An ordinance waiting to be passed by the Board of Supervisors would help control air pollution.

At last week's meeting, the Board of Supervisors discussed a new ordiance regarding open air burning that would prohibit all outdoor burning except for cooking, recreational, educational and ceremonial purposes, as defined in the ordinance itself.

This will mainly include the burning of solid waste, domestic refuse and yard waste. The previous regulations on the matter, Chapter 66 of the Northampton Township Code of Ordinance, will be deleted and replaced with the new one.

The Northampton Township Air Pollution Control Ordinance of 2011's purpose is to reduce open burning which "may be detrimental to the health, comfort, living conditions, welfare, and safety of the citizens of Northampton Township," according to the document.
