Rock And Mineral Expo To Connect Kids To The Earth At Churchville

NORTHAMPTON TOWNSHIP, PA — Rock, mineral and gem lovers of all ages are invited to witness the geological power of the periodic table at a weekend-long Rock & Mineral Expo at the Churchville Nature Center.

The geological exploration takes place on Saturday, April 13 and Sunday, April 14, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Churchville Nature Center in Northampton Township.

Themed "Elemental Experience," the expo will feature several businesses, collectors, artists and crafters who will be on-hand to sell their geology-focused jewelry, display pieces, rocks and minerals, crystals and carvings.

Several hands-on science and geology activities for kids will also be offered, including a “Diamond Dig,” “Cave Exploration,” “Gold Panning” and “Aluminum Embossing.”

“Churchville Nature Center becomes extremely busy, noisy and fun for the entire weekend that we hold the Rock and Mineral Expo,” said Susan Slawinski, the center’s public events coordinator. “We will have many things for families to examine, learn about, do and purchase.

"As the actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt has said, 'The element of surprise wasn’t allowed near the Periodic Table.' So, we hope to surprise folks when they come here to learn about it!" said Slawinski.

Admission at the door is $6 per adult and free for kids. (Some of the children’s activities will be free while others will have a nominal fee to cover costs for materials and supplies.) Pre-registration is not required.

Churchville Nature Center is an environmental education facility of the Bucks County Department of Parks and Recreation, located on a 65-acre nature preserve adjacent to the Churchville Reservoir in Northampton Township. The popular center is known for its two miles of scenic trails, colorful gardens, exhibit-filled visitor center, family events, school and scout programs, Butterfly House, nature walks, summer camps, Lenape Village – and so much more.
