Rolling Harvest To Cut Ribbon On New Storage Facility In Northampton

NORTHAMPTON TOWNSHIP, PA — Rolling Harvest Food Rescue, a Bucks County nonprofit that connects local farmers with people who are food insecure, will officially cut the ribbon on its new cooler at Solly Farm on April 24.

The event will celebrate the opening of a new walk-in cooler that will be used for storing and distributing fresh fruits and vegetables.

Funding for the new cooler, which can hold up to eight pallets of produce, was provided by a grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection Food Recovery Infrastructure Grant Program.

“This new outdoor cooler storage facility is a game-changer for us as it will significantly enhance our capacity to procure and distribute fresh produce to all our hunger-relief partners," said Jamie McKnight, program and development director of Rolling Harvest. "The access to cold food storage is a vital component of our food recovery efforts, enabling us to collaborate effectively with local farmers and food producers to support our neighbors facing food insecurity.”

With the new cooler, Bob Solly, a longtime partner of Rolling Harvest who grows fresh produce for sale at this Northampton Township farm and for donation directly to Rolling Harvest, said he will now be able to keep his produce donations fresh inside the new cooler until they can be distributed.

The ribbon cutting is scheduled for April 24 at 10 a.m. at Solly Farm, 707 Almshouse Road in Northampton Township. Local and state elected officials have been invited and all are welcome to attend.

Rolling Harvest Food Rescue increases access to donated fresh produce and other healthy foods for local at-risk and food-insecure populations. They assist area hunger-relief sites by providing local farmers and food producers with free, effective delivery and distribution of their surplus.
