Supervisors to Present Flag, Announce New Drive

The Board of Supervisors will meet tonight at 7:30 at the Administration Building.

In addition to their regular meeting agenda, tonight the supervisors will welcome home another Northampton patriot, Navy Petty Officer Frank Young, Jr.

The flag presentation will begin at 7:30 and the supervisors, along with local veterans, will present Young's parents, Eric and Stacey Gremminger, with his American flag that has been situated in the public meeting room since his deployment in October, 2010, according to a statement by Veterans Advisory Committee Vice President Pete Palestina.

Young is the second of two children in his family to return home safely and have his military flag exchanged for an American flag, following his brother Jonathan Gremminger who served in the Marine Corps in Afghanistan several years ago.

Also to be announced at the meeting is a new initiative in the area to collect "Socks for Soldiers."

Local Kathy Croak is the mother of Marine Lance Corporal Daniel Croak, who left for Afghanistan in April. Daniel asked his mother to start a drive to collect 5,000 white boot or tall socks by Oct. 1. These types are "sorely needed by our troops," the statement said.
