Township Update on Contaminated Wells
The DEP held an information session updating residents on the western end wells earlier this month.
Northampton Township released the powerpoint slides from an informational meeting held on March 10 concerning the contaminated wells in the western end.
This issue, which arose last May, is one that locals have not forgotten about and continue to bring up at township meetings.
The problem is the PA Department of Environmental Protection found several wells near Jacksonville and Almshouse Roads to be contaminated with trichloroethylene (TCE), tetrachloroethylene (PCE) and dichloroethylene (1, 1-DCE). Each of these chemicals are possible carcinogens, which means consuming them could cause cancer.

Of the homes tested so far, 15 residential properties didn't pass the maximum contaminant level (MCL) for TCE and/or PCE and one also surpassed the MCL for 1, 1-DCE.
Officials are still searching for solutions, and will continue to investigate, test and hold public hearings throughout the upcoming months.
