Troop 145's Matt Dallas Earns the Rank of Eagle Scout

Troop 145's newest Eagle Scout Matt Dallas cooks up a service project to benefit Aid for Friends.

Matt Dallas is Troop 145’s newest Eagle Scout. As part of the requirements to advance to the highest rank in scouting, Matt led an Eagle Scout Service Project that benefited Aid for Friends. The project was a natural for Matt who loves to cook and who credits the organization with helping individuals like his great-aunt remain independent in their own homes.

Matt and his team of fellow scout volunteers prepared 169 servings of homemade chicken soup, 193 cheese sandwiches and 65 servings of chocolate pudding for the charity which serves homebound and isolated individuals in the Philadelphia region. In addition, the scouts labeled items in preparation for delivery to clients in their homes. Donations from Costco and Acme helped cover the cost of materials for the project. Additional funds were raised using a GoFundMe page with the excess donated to the charity to cover electric upgrades and new freezers.

Matt began his scouting career in first grade as a Tiger Cub in Pack 318. While a cub scout, he earned the Light of Christ and Parvuli Dei religious awards and his Arrow of Light before crossing over to Troop 145. He served his troop as Troop Guide, Chaplain’s Aide, Assistant Quartermaster, and Fire Marshal. He attended summer camp with his troop at Hawk Mountain, Ockanickon and Rodney Scout Reservations. Along the way, he earned 36 merit badges including one for cooking.
