Have you ever watched Tai Chi and thought, “That looks relaxing…but could I actually do it?”
Yes—you can. And that’s exactly why this class is such a wonderful fit for older adults.
This fall, Friends Village welcomes certified Tai Chi instructor Clyde Beury for a gentle, welcoming class designed to help you improve balance, build strength, increase flexibility—and maybe find a little more calm in your week.
No experience? Perfect. Prefer to sit? That works. Want to stand? Great. Not particularly flexible? You don’t need to be!
The program, developed by Dr. Paul Lam in collaboration with Tai Chi and medical experts, uses Sun Style Tai Chi—known for its slow, gentle, flowing movements and accessibility for older adults. Think of it as a little bit of movement, a little bit of meditation, and a whole lot of taking care of yourself.
Regular Tai Chi practice can help:
🌿 Improve balance and coordination 🌿 Build foundational strength 🌿 Increase flexibility and mobility 🌿 Encourage healthy breathing 🌿 Promote relaxation and calm 🌿 Keep both the body and mind engaged 🌿 And give you another reason to get out, meet people, and try something new!

Clyde brings much more than his Tai Chi certification to the class. After nearly 35 years as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor, he has spent decades helping and volunteering with others throughout the community. His philosophy is simple: every person has value and dignity and deserves to feel appreciated.
A longtime practitioner of Tai Chi and meditation himself, Clyde brings that same patient, thoughtful approach to his teaching.
