"99% Voters" Protest Keith Rothfus's and Senator Toomey's Plans to Weaken Social Security and Medicare

As Senator Pat Toomey stumped Tuesday for Keith Rothfus at a rally in Wexford, a group of about 40 protesters gathered in front of his campaign office. The protesters were standing in opposition to Rothfus’s support for policies that weaken Medicare and Social Security, give tax breaks to companies that ship jobs overseas and allow the wealthy and corporations to pay little or no taxes.

Protesters like Stephanie Marshall of Aliquippa showed up out of concern over cuts contained in the Ryan budget and the potential privatization of Social Security.

“I want a congressman who is looking out for regular people and not just the wealthy and corporations.” Marshall is unemployed and is encouraged by recent improved unemployment numbers. “If we vote in a candidate who is only looking out for the 1%, the poor and middle class will slide backwards quickly. We cannot afford to send Keith Rothfus to Washington.”

Keith Rothfus has expressed his support for the Ryan Budget, which turns Medicare into a voucher program and also paves the way for Social Security privatization. Keith Rothfus has made efforts to distance himself from the unpopular cuts contained in the Ryan budget. However, distancing himself from Senator Pat Toomey’s support for Social Security privatization may prove more difficult as he stumps for him on the campaign trail. Senator Pat Toomey has been one of the more outspoken members of the Senate in support of privatizing Social Security and even outlined his plan to privatize the program in 2010.

Keith Rothfus is a strong supporter of vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan and spoke at a rally with him in Moon last week as well as the Republican National Convention in Tampa.
