Do you ever find yourself walking mindlessly through your home somewhat oblivious to the clutter around you? Sometimes we get so used to the clutter lying around that we fail to really “see” it.
For instance … the pair of dirty socks that someone left on the floor in the living room. What if the next time you passed it (going in the direction of the hamper) you picked it up and put it in the hamper? What about that grocery bag full of pantry items that’s been sitting on the kitchen floor for 2 weeks? Are you going in the direction of the pantry? Take it with you and then take 2 minutes to put the items away.
These may seem like such tiny little things and won’t make much difference at all, but if you do it consistently, there will be no need to spend an hour or more frantically cleaning up before someone can come over.

This reminds me of one of my favorite episodes from the TV show “Everybody Loves Raymond.” The Romano’s came back from vacation, but weeks later, one of their suitcases was still sitting at the bottom of their stairs … no one wanted to be “the one” to take it upstairs.
Here’s a short 1 – minute clip of what happened in the end … hilarious!
