Burglary Update: Ross Police Beef Up Patrols

There have been four break-ins since Oct. 17 in homes within a mile of the Northway Mall.

Ross Township police are spending a lot of extra time in several neighborhoods in the vicinity of Northway Mall, where a burglar or burglars struck four times within a week.

"The increased patrols include patrol cars, bicycle patrol, and plain-clothes officers in unmarked cars," said Detective Brian Kohlhepp.

Also new, word that in the first burglary on Oct. 17 in a home on Babcock Boulevard, a weapon may have been taken.

"There were a number of firearms in plain sight at the residence of the first burglary that were passed over by the burglar," said Kohlepp. "There is one firearm currently being considered.  It is unknown at this time if it was taken by the burglar."

The break-in on Oct. 17 was the first of four. The others that followed were:

  • Oct. 20: Pinewood Terrace
  • Oct. 23: Marie Drive off of Brown's Lane.
  • Oct. 24: Swann Drive off of Babock Blvd.

All four burglaries had three things in common:

  • Entry was made by forcing rear doors or windows open.
  • The burglar(s) appear to be looking for jewelry.
  • All occurred between 7:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Ross Police ask that residents remain vigilant:

  • Report any suspicious persons or vehicles in your neighborhood.
  • Look for people in the rear or side yards of homes, or knocking on any door of a house for no obvious reason.
  • Keep homes locked and jewelry secured, or at the very least, out of sight.
  • Call 9-1-1 immediately if you see anything suspicious.
