Self-centered, avaricious Californian CharlieBabbitt (Tom Cruise) is informed that hislong-estranged father has died. Expecting atleast a portion of the elder Babbitt’s $3 millionestate, Charlie learns that all he’s inheritedis his dad’s prize roses and a 1949 BuickRoadmaster. Discovering that the $3 millionis being held in trust for an unidentified party,Charlie heads to his home town of Cincinnatito ascertain who that party is. It turns out thatthe beneficiary is Raymond Babbitt (DustinHoffman), the autistic-savant older brotherthat Charlie never knew he had. All threemain actors won Oscars, and the moviewon Best Picture.
