'Lifeguard' Film Shoot Begins in Sewickley

The film starring Kristen Bell attracted a crowd of onlookers Tuesday on Beaver Street.

A large crowd gathered on the sidewalk on Beaver Street Tuesday morning to catch a glimpse of the latest movie shoot in Sewickley, an independent film starring Kristen Bell.

Shooting for the new movie "Lifeguard," which stars Kristen Bell and Zachary Quinto, "Heroes" star and a Green Tree native, began Monday in the Sewickley Cemetery.

Borough officials said the film is a small production being shot by West Carson Street Productions.  Other communities involved in providing the backdrop of a New England community for the shoot could include Aleppo, Edgeworth and Leetsdale.

Leetsdale secretary Liz Petalino said the borough isn't certain if the film will shoot there, but the production did inquire about using the strip mall on Route 65 where the  is located.

"We had a call asking if they needed any permits to film here. We don’t require anything except they notify the police for crowd control. I don’t know for sure if they are going to be here. They were just inquiring,” Petalino said.

The movie crew contacted  a few weeks ago to get permission for filming. That's where crews set up shop today, doing several takes of "Veronica Mars" star Bell and Martin Starr of "Save the Date" walking together between Green and Walnut streets.

Sewickley's own Sarah Heres, vice president of the  , worked as an extra for the shoot.

Sewickley Councilman Tom DeFazio said once filming wraps up in the business district, the shoot will move to a rental home he and his wife own on Nevin Avenue. The crew had already prepped the site.

"They moved things around," he said.

A member of the production crew said filming will continue in Sewickley through the end of the month. Crews are expected to film night scenes near Beaver and Chestnut streets.

Last year, Sewickley served as the part of the backdrop for the which had the working title "One Shot." The film's trailer was released today
