McDonald's Self-Serve Kiosks Debut In Pittsburgh

A Ross Township McDonald's becomes the first in the Pittsburgh metro area to go high-tech.

ROSS TOWNSHIP, PA - They soon will be commonplace at every McDonald’s, but a McKnight Road franchise on Tuesday became the first in the Pittsburgh metro area to debut digital ordering kiosks.

Customers can now bypass the counter entirely by paying at the kiosk with a credit or debit card. No more hanging around the counter waiting for your order, either. Patrons now get table numbers and their food is delivered to them.

The kiosks allow diners to order at their own pace and customize sandwiches to their own liking. McDonald’s began rolling them out in select markets last year. Ordering via kiosk “is a more stress-free, personalized experience, enhanced by technology and world-class hospitality that puts customers in control,” a fast food chain release stated.

The McDonald’s at the intersection of McKnight and Johnanna Drive won’t be the only one in Pittsburgh with kiosks for long. McDonald’s plans to have them in most of its 14,000 locations by 2020.
