By no later than Monday at 6 a.m., motorists will see the following traffic patterns:
- Just south of the McKnight Road/Evergreen Road interchange, northbound mainline I-279 traffic shift into the (HOV) lanes. Motorists will still be able to access the McKnight Road/Evergreen Road off-ramp.
- As northbound motorists approach the Perrysville Avenue interchange, one lane of traffic will be crossed over into the southbound lanes. That lane is the express lane. All traffic using this lane won’t have access to the Perrysville Avenue, Bellevue/West View and Camp Horne Road interchanges. The express lane will be crossed back over into the northbound lanes just north of the Camp Horne Road exit.
- The right-hand lane of northbound I-279 will remain in place. That lane is the local lane, and all access to the Perrysville Avenue, Bellevue/West View and Camp Horne Road exists must be made that lane.
- The current Perrysville Avenue off-ramp will not be accessible from the HOV lanes. The ramp to the Perrysville Park and Ride (a left hand exit, after the split between the express and local lanes) will be used as the exit for Perrysville Avenue (Route 19).
- All three lanes (2 southbound, 1 northbound) on the southbound side of I-279 will be narrowed to 11 feet. The northbound local lane will remain 12 feet-wide.
Expect these traffic patterns to be in place through late August, PennDOT said.
