Popular Pittsburgh Music Venue To Close

PITTSBURGH, PA — For more than a decade, The Original Pittsburgh Winery has been a place where people could comfortably go to wine, dine and listen to assorted types of live music.

That's about to permanently change.

The boutique urban winery, located on Penn Avenue in the Strip District, will be permanently closing on August 15. The move was announced on social media by co-owners Tim Gaber and Anthony Jardine.

"Although this is painful and heartbreaking for all of us, we remain eternally grateful for the love and support the community and the scene have bestowed upon us," a Facebook post stated. "We stand in awe of the level of talent that has graced our stages over the years, and we implore everyone to continue to support them wherever they perform.

"Our humble appreciation and gratitude extend to not only our friends, family, supporters and performers, but also to the team members and volunteers, past and present, who poured their hearts and souls into bringing this dream to life, and for keeping it on life support for as long as they did. It could be a thankless job at times."

A specific reason for the closure was not disclosed, but the winery owners hinted at the challenges of keeping venues like theirs financially afloat.

"Please also let this serve as a call to action to do everything you can to support your local independent music venues, especially those that support and host local music. These rooms are the lifeblood of this art form and they desperately need your patronage."

According to the winery website, the last acts slated to perform at the venue are the Buzz Poets on August 7, Reuben's Painted Mandolin on August 8 and Soulful Femme and Sahūagin w/ Org Dröl both on August 14.
