Pirates President Sentenced for DUI In Ross Township

Frank Coonelly was arrested on Dec. 22 near the Perrysville Exit of I-279.

Pittsburgh Pirates President Frank Coonelly was ordered to enter a program for first time offenders following his arrest in December 2011 on charges of driving under the influence.

If he does not have a second offense in the next five years, his record will be cleared. Otherwise, he could face a jail sentence.

According to court records, Ross Township police charged Coonelly with drunk driving, driving the wrong way, careless driving and driving with a blood alcohol content of at least .16. The state’s legal limit is .08.

"My actions that evening were irresponsible and wrong," Coonelly said. "I take full and sole responsibility for them. There is no excuse for ever driving under the influence of alcohol."
