Seventh Annual Shaler Area Alumni Soccer Game Promotes Scholarship and Organ Donation

The Seventh Annual Shaler Area Alumni Soccer Game will be held on Saturday, August 17 at 5:00 PM at the Biles Turf Field at Shaler Area High School, 381 Wible Run Road.  The event is free and open to the public and benefits the Scott Alexander Memorial Scholarship Fund.  The fund awards $1,200 scholarships to three Shaler Area graduating seniors who have outstanding character and have lettered in varsity soccer or track and field; maintained a high grade point average, and participated in community service.

The fund was established in 2007 to honor the memory of 1989 Shaler graduate and standout athlete Scott Alexander, who lost a battle to brain cancer in 2007 at age 36. The event also recognizes the significant impact Scott had as an organ donor--the organs, bone and tissue he donated has helped between 30 and 50 people.
