Studio RAW Reopens After Fire

Four days after fire destroyed their business, the Studio RAW hair salon was up and running Tuesday at its new, temporary location at 3471 Babcock Boulevard in Ross Township. 

“We were determined to be closed for just one regular business day, and that was Monday,” said owner Lorraine Burda. “There’s been an incredible outpouring of support, and our team has been unbelievable, we’re getting loads of good energy.” 

Co-owner Dan Burda, Lorraine’s son, did not let the fire stop their staff from finishing the hairdos of several students going to the prom in Peters Township Friday.  

“It was incredibly difficult to see everything we worked for lost in a fire,” said Dan Burda.  “But we stop for nothing and we will come back with a vengeance.

Lorraine said there is little doubt they will re-build. “We will come back bigger and better than ever,” she said. 

For now, space will be tight. The temporary shop is 800 square feet compared to 3,500 in the building that burned down. Lorraine said they have their eye on several permanent locations, all in the Ross Township area. 

The fire broke out just days after the studio hosted a glitter-themed fundraiser for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation that raised $13,000. 

The day of the fire, much of the glitter remained.  So when the salon reopened, clients were given vials of glitter and ash, to commemorate the former salon. 

The Ross Fire Marshal suspects an electrical problem triggered the fire, and hopes to have a definitive cause by the end of the week.  

The structure is owned by Ross Commissioner Peter Ferraro and had been home to several offices, including Arbors Management Inc.; Santucci Insurance; Eisen & Associates, an attorney's office; and the Massage Centre for Fibromyalgia.
