'Oblivion' to Open Shankweiler's Drive-In Friday

Shankweiler's Drive-in in North Whitehall opens for the season this weekend with a double header, 'Oblivion' with Tom Cruise and 'Identity Thief' with Melissa McCarthy.

Shankweiler's Drive-In—billed as America's oldest drive-in—opens for the season Friday with two big movies, "Oblivion" and "Identity Thief."

It will be the drive-in's 80th season, with the movies being shown on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Shankweiler's has been in continuous operation since 1934, according to its website.

The sci-fi action film "Oblivion," starring Tom Cruise and Morgan Freeman, begins at 8 p.m.  "Identity Thief," with Melissa McCarthy and Jason Bateman, begins at 10:25 p.m. Movie times are approximate.

The drive-in is usually open only on weekends in April, May and September. It is open each night in June, July, and August through Labor Day.

Admission is:

  • $9 for adults
  • $5 for children 12 and under
  • Free for children ages 2 and under
