Ex-Supervisor: Forks Signs "Illegal"

Signs, signs everywhere.

And, according to former Forks Township Supervisor Bonnie Nicholas, many of them are illegal.

The township, however, disagrees.

Nicholas appeared before the Forks Township Board of Supervisors Thursday night during the public comment period to state that numerous signs are violating the township's zoning codes.

They included the three new Forks Township welcome signs that are being put up this week, she said.

"It blows my mind," Nicholas said. "We're allowing illegal signs."

Nicholas estimated to Palmer/Forks Patch.com after her comments that there are at least 100 township signs that aren't meeting code.

She said that many signs are violating the zoning ordinance because of their size, decorations and lighting.

Nicholas said that illuminated signs are illegal. So are ones that have amber lights and that are neon. She added that portable and temporary signs are also in violation.

She pointed out that the two Forks Township digital signs are illegal. Nicholas added that the new Park Plaza at Sullivan Trail sign is illegal due to its size.

"It's huge," Nicholas said.

Nicholas urged township officials to read the township's sign ordinance.

Following her comments, Forks Zoning Officer Tim Weis responded for Nicholas to present him with specifics.

"Our signs aren't illegal," Weis said.
