Palmer Destroying Township Records

Palmer Township officials are destroying some of the township's records.

But don't worry. This isn't Watergate....or Palmergate for that matter.

"This is all by normal requirements," Supervisors Chairman Dave Colver said at a recent board meeting.

Township Manager Christopher Christman asked the board to approve a resolution — which it did — for the township to follow the schedules and procedures set forth in the Municipal Records Manual.

"We do this annually,' Christman said. "It helps cut down on paperwork."

Among the destroyed records are:

• Payroll records (2005) — Documents include bi-weekly and quarterly payroll reports, yearly and quarterly journals, payroll bank statements and cancelled checks, account statements and time cards.
• Fund Accounting (2005) — Paid invoices, monthly reports, bank statements.
• Real Estate Taxes (2003) — Prior year real estate receipts and monthly reports.
• Legal Files (2001-2011) — Palmer Municipal Sewer Authority records, unemployment claims, municipal liens, tax assessment appeals, sinkhole repair bills, legal research, tax sales, etc.
