Hurricane Sandy Cleanup Discussed in Palmer

Sewer engineering services and Hurricane Sandy topped the short Palmer Township Board of Supervisors meeting Monday.

In basically a meeting to clear some housekeeping items, the Palmer supervisors first resolved some issues that will allow Gannett Fleming to continue providing sewer engineering services for 2013.

Last year, the township dissolved its sewer authority. But Gannett Fleming will be kept on to complete projects after the firm agreed to some liability language changes in their agreement which had come up about three weeks ago.

In other business:

• A motion was approved for a fence in Somerset Village. The Aviles Fence agreement will provide a vinyl fence along a drainage easement.
• A motion was approved for a security release of $358,634 for the Northwood Center.
• Bethel Memorial Church has requested a 7 a.m. Easter sunrise service on March 31 at a township park and to place a banner up prior to promote the service. The request was approved.

In departmental reports:

• Police Chief Larry Palmer delivered to supervisors the December crime report and also the year-end crime report.
• Public Safety Director Tom Adams said he was meeting with a FEMA representative on the Hurricane Sandy cleanup to discuss debris removal items.
