Palmer Purchasing 10 Acres for Municipal Use

Palmer Township officials have signed off on a deal to buy 10.82 acres that it will use for municipal purposes.

Township Solicitor Charles Bruno brought a purchase agreement before the Board of Supervisors Monday night for the township to buy the land from Skyview LCC.

The land is on Hartley and Nulton avenues near the new public works building.

The township will spend $436,160 -- $40,000 per acre --for two parcels, one 4.7 acres and the other 6.12 acres.

The township will make a 5 percent deposit of $21,808.

"I know the township has good intentions," Bruno said. "It's next to the new public works facility. This seems like a good project on both sides. It's a good transaction."

Supervisors Chairman Dave Colver agreed.

"In the big picture, this sets us up for the long term," he said. "We'll have 32 acres to handle the township needs for keeping parks, public works, the recycling center and sewer together forever. Everybody's happy."

Supervisor Bob Lammi said of acquiring such land that it "is extremely valuable and very rare" to get this land attached.

"This is a very good business decision to move forward," Lammi said.

Bruno added that the purchase price was well below market value.

The supervisors board approved the motion for the sale.

The revised agreement allows for a closing date of Jan. 31 with a due diligence period until Jan. 28.
