Paving Starts Wednesday on Three Forks Roads

Forks Township will begin a paving project on three roads starting Wednesday, Aug. 1.

Public Works Director Mark Roberts sent a letter, dated July 20, to residents of Sycamore and Chestnut avenues and Wagon Wheel Drive about the paving.

The three roads, which were scheduled under the 2012 Forks Township Road Program, are set for paving to begin Aug. 1 to Aug. 3, weather permitting.

All work on the roads is expected to be completed by Aug. 25.

Roberts said that prior to paving, the roads will be patched as needed with trees trimmed and the roadway swept.

In addition, the roads will be milled from the curb line to 7 inches into the travel lane.

He said the roads will be posted with "No Parking" signs, first from July 26, 27 and 30 for milling and then from Aug. 1-3 for paving.

After the roads are paved, motorists can park on the streets again. Failure, though, to move any vehicles during construction means they will be towed at the owner's expense.

Residents will be allowed access to the roads at all times. But Roberts is requesting that residents make sure they are seen by workers and to not drive over unrolled blacktop.

Before the blacktop is laid, the roadway is sprayed with a "tac" coat of tar to hold it in place, the letter states.

Roberts warns motorists to drive slowly over the material so it doesn't coat your vehicle. He also warns not to cut your wheels sharply on fresh blacktop when turning.

Sealing will take place a couple of days after the paving operations at all driveway entrances.
