A Stop for Steak: Road House Grille

In the iconic streetscape of nights out, known so naturally in Skippack, is Road House Grille, fairly flaunting its place along the town’s main road.

From shared Brasserie 73 kitchen efforts similar to a plentiful plate seen in a recent On the French Front review of the next door neighboring restaurant, a wide-set platter of artisan cheeses makes its way for the palate in the literal form of half-moons, triangles, wedges, lengthy blocks and small mounds, with some of the samplings as chèvre, a delicately done goat cheese, brie, Roquefort and a poignant Irish porter.

For pairings with the fattened slivers of dairy musts, white grapes, strawberries, granny smith apple slices, thickly prepared specialty crackers, hot mustard blends and apricot marmalade maneuver a mouth-spent yell of success as an appetizer simply gone right.

In the hearty tune of steak, a grilled filet mignon tucks aside tender Peruvian potatoes, done without reminders of starch or hardness. The medium-cooked filet takes to its top with a garden chimichurri sauce, beckoning of a vinegary, pickled set of finely chopped peppers and onions. With slightly sweet carrots then and the savory way of the steak, combined with the lingering sour approach of the filet’s unexpected South American-inspired top-sauce, this entrée credibly signals success.

A grilled New York strip steak done medium-rare, a bit larger than its predecessor noted above, joins a plate with carbohydrate-happy homemade potato gnocchi alongside roasted peppers. An arugula pesto pulls together these crave-quenching ingredients as the meat of it all tangos between the usual fork and serrated knife.

And when the quaint dessert menu stirs sweets to the table, it welcomes its first candidate as the chocolate and banana spring roll. This warm delight whips into form the bulkier-sized crystals known as raw sugar, a hard-to-fight-from-affection caramel sauce and the easy delicacy of French vanilla ice cream.

A praline cup of blackberries, raspberries, blueberries and strawberries pressed in a saccharine scene salutes a satisfied belly in time of course meant for fondly appreciating the pastry parts of life.

Fresh throws of mint add something special to each of these desserts, to boot.
