Airport News at Skippack Board Meeting

Perkiomen Valley Airport to remain staus quo, for now; Yarrow Airport condemned for open space

More than a dozen community members attended the August 8 Skippack Township Board of Supervisors Meeting expecting a public hearing regarding the growth of the Perkiomen Valley Airport, which had been indefinitely tabled.

“The Jubb family, hiring a new airport manager, wanted to move forward with the growth of the airport, very slowly,” said Mary Beth LaBelle, Skippack Board of Supervisors Chairman.

LaBelle said that Skippack Township Engineer Tim Woodrow is revisiting a 2006 study to evaluate how every property owner would be affected by the growth, and that there would be discussions regarding the cost paid by the Jubb family.

“Until any of that is done, we are not going to move forward with any changes of any ordinances, and until that happens, we have nothing to share,” said Labelle, who offered to personally interface with the residents on this project.

During the solicitor’s report,  Jill Zimmerman brought forward a resolution authorizing the condemnation of 4878 Garges Road, Schwenksville, for open space.  The 31 acre property, owned by Lawrence D. and Eleanor Edmonson, is the Yarrow Airport, a private facility that has been in existence since 1973.
