MontCo's Voter ID Issuance Program Will Continue

Although a PA State Superior Court Judge blocked enforcement of the Voter ID Law for the 2012 election, an appeal to the State Supreme Court is possible - Montgomery County will continue with its Voter ID Program, which is coming to the Perkiomen Valley

Story Update:

Though Superior Court Justice Robert Simpson blocked enforcement of the law of the 2012 Election today, an appeal is possible.  .

Montgomery County Commissioner Josh Shapiro said Simpson's ruling does not eliminate the need for the county's program.

"It's not a moot point at all," Shapiro said in an interview on the Radio Times show on WHYY-FM on Tuesday morning.

"We don't know what the Supreme Court will rule. Presumably, this will be appealed to them. We can't sit around and wait," Shapiro said.

The commisioners released a comprehensive schedule of dates in which employees of Parkhouse, the county's care center, will be producing photo IDs for registered Montgomery County voters.

The commissioners have said that this program, which will cost the county roughly $5,000, will continue regardless of any ruling from Pennsylvania Courts.

To obtain a photo ID, voters need one of the following:

1. A non-photo ID issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (or any of its agencies)

2. A non-photo ID issued by the United States Government (or any of its agencies)

3. A firearm permit

4. A current utility bill

5. A current bank statement

6. A pay check

7. A government check

All voters are also required to fill out an application, under penalty of perjury, that they are a citizen of the United States, a resident of Montgomery County and a registered voter in the county.

Below are dates in which the program will be visiting the Perkiomen Valley area.  A schedule through Election Day, provided by Montgomery County, can be found as a PDF in the upload section below.
