PennDOT Reopens Stump Hall Road Bridge This Afternoon Following Structural Repairs

Traffic had been detoured since November.

Stump Hall Road in Skippack Township reopened to traffic today at 4:15 p.m. following the completion of structural repairs to the bridge over Zacharias Creek, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced.

Crews worked since Nov. 15, 2010, to rehabilitate the box beam structure that was rated structurally deficient prior to the start of construction. PennDOT's contractor removed and replaced the deteriorated concrete beams and deck, repaired a deteriorated wing wall, made repairs around the support abutments, installed a new guide rail and resurfaced the roadway approaches.

Built in 1958, the Stump Hall Road Bridge is located between Anders Road and Route 73. The structure is 34 feet long and 34 feet wide. It carried 3,100 vehicles a day prior its closure last November.

Loftus Construction, Inc. of Cinnaminson, N.J. was the general contractor on the $965,000 project that was financed with 100 percent state funds.

In addition to Stump Hall Road, PennDOT is rehabilitating two additional structurally deficient bridges under this contract. They are the Brinton Lake Road Bridge over Chester Creek in Thornbury Township, Delaware County, and the New Hanover Square Road Bridge over Minister Creek in New Hanover Township, Montgomery County.
