Progress Reported in Hiring Process for New Lower Frederick Township Police Officer

In other news, the fire marshal has enacted a burn ban due to dry conditions.

The process for will continue thanks to the approval of $4,000 by the Board of Supervisors to be used for preliminary tests and a background check of the new officer. The tests include a polygraph and psychological test according to Police Chief Paul Maxey.

The name of the newly hired officer has not been released, but Chief Maxey said he is a resident of Lower Frederick Township with “an extensive police background.”

Last month the Board of Supervisors approved a motion that authorized the township to hire a new part time officer to help fill the void of a full time officer who was terminated last August. The entire hiring process is expected to take about three months.

After numerous requests from residents who wish to be waived from , which requires anyone with an on lot sewage system to document their system has been pumped and inspected once every three years, the board decided to not waive any resident from pumping their on-lot systems. Township Chairman Ernest Schmitt said they would be unable to examine each complaint in a case by case basis because they are “not qualified” to do so.

The fire marshal issued a burn ban Tuesday morning in Lower Frederick Township that will be in effect until further notice due to dry conditions. The ban means the township will not authorize any burn permits until the ban is lifted.
