"She (Nicole) is understandably distraught and struggling to work while her mother is missing," the fundraiser's organizers wrote. "We are hoping to be able to send the kids to summer camp and help her catch up on bills while she figures out a new normal and searches for a job."
The children, aged 9 and 6, were adopted by Christi and Nicole after their parents died years ago. Raising the kids has been a "joint effort" since then, organizers said.

Troiano, 56, has not been seen since she left her family's home in Souderton early in the morning on April 25.
Her family released an updated missing person flyer over the weekend that offered new details. Troiano left at 12:30 a.m. in her black 2009 Acura TL after indicating that she wanted to harm herself, family and police said. At the time, family said they believed she was just going out to get a pack of cigarettes.
She was then spotted an hour later, at 1:30 p.m., on Cowpath Road in Hatfield Township, making a right turn onto Orvilla Road.
Christi frequently visits the Jersey Shore and Atlantic City casinos, as well as parks in Bucks County, police said.
She has blonde hair, blue eyes, is 5 feet, 8 inches tall, and about 130 pounds. She has a tattoo of a water lily on her back, and two or three piercings in each ear.
Her black 2009 Acura TL has a Pennsylvania license plate GJN7484.
